TWO border football clubs are taking their first steps to returning to the field.

Bishops Castle Football Club and Trefonen Football Club both compete in Welsh pyramid football despite being based in Shropshire.

Last week the UK Government permitted a phased return of training for football clubs but restrictions remain in place in Wales.

Despite being permitted to start small group training sessions both border clubs insist neither will rush back with citing insurance concerns.

Castle spokesman Lee Davies said: "I know training sessions are on the agenda.

"The lads are currently training individually and collectively running the distance of the Welsh coast on Strava.

"I know they’re are keen to meet in small groups but we may need to get insurance coverage over the summer months to do this."

It is a similar tale at Trefonen Football Club.

A spokesman said: "We should be able to carry out fitness and small sided games along with some drills.

"The FA have released some guidance on what can and can’t be done however I personally am not too sure where we fall in that, as we are affiliated to the Football Association of Wales (FAW) so I am not sure if the insurance would be valid until the FAW say so.

"I’m sure over the next few weeks it may become clearer for everybody."
