NEWTOWN travel to JD Cymru Premier leaders Connahs Quay Nomads tonight (Friday).

The Robins make the trip aiming to revive their own season while putting a dent in the Deeside side’s title bid.

However the hosts go into the game knowing a win would potentially extend their lead at the top with second place TNS also in action at Caernarfon Town.

Newtown will look to play their part in the most exciting JD Cymru Premier title race in a decade by giving Nomads a bloody nose.

Manager Chris Hughes was awarded the JD Cymru Premier manager of the month award for December this week, but his side have endured a poor second phase of the season.

Last week the Robins threw away the lead at Caernarfon to fall to a 3-1 defeat.

Hughes said: “We controlled the game and had the initiative in the first-half but after the break they took their chances and we didn’t.

“I felt several decisions did not go our way which has been the case this season and it is frustrating.”

Hughes insisted his players had no time to dwell and had to look to end the season strongly.

“We need to improve,” said Hughes. “We have a big game against Connahs Quay on Friday and we need to prepare correctly in the week and look get something from the game.

“It will be tough but all top six games are.”
