BRECON Corinthians’ 28 game unbeaten record came to an end at Berriew on the weekend.

A 3-0 quarter-final defeat at the Talbot Field ended the Watson Financial Mid Wales League South leaders long unbeaten record and their dreams of Central Wales Cup glory.

However vice chairman Barry Jones insisted the Corries would bounce back with the title already in their grasp.

“This is the Corries first defeat in 28 games having won all 27 up to this point,” said Jones. “We’ve beaten Mid Wales tier three and four clubs this season and have done over the last few years in other cup competitions.

“We are on course to hopefully win the league with eight games remaining and nine points clear with a superior goal difference of plus 141.”

Jones admitted Berriew had represented the Corries toughest test of the season.

“We were competitive in the end to end game but two penalties and a serious injury to our striker was the difference on the day.

“We had our chances but failed to put the ball in the back of the net and all credit to Berriew who were fast, organised and strong.

“The Central Wales Cup is a difficult competition to win and to get to the quarter-finals is a very good achievement in our first season back in the association.”

Brecon travel to Penybont on Saturday with Jones backing the players to bounce back.

“We travel to Penybont this weekend committed to learning from our loss and continuing our drive and determination to continuously improve and do the town of Brecon proud.”
