THE Montgomeryshire League remains in the dark over the future of the league beyond this season.

A pyramid restructure this summer will have a ripple effect as the Football Association of Wales (FAW) creates a new third tier.

Among the ramifications of the changes is the current Mid Wales League being split geographically into an eastern and western conference at level four of the new pyramid.

However with just months remaining of the season clubs and leagues still have no idea which clubs will make up the new leagues.

Montgomeryshire League secretary Bernie Jones hit out at the process following a meeting in Llansantffraid on Monday.

“It was a complete waste of time,” said Jones. “The FAW has no idea what clubs will be in what leagues so how can leagues and clubs plan.

“Clubs cannot prepare for next season as they have no idea what preparations to make.

“Every season in the past a club has had to apply for promotion by December 31 ahead of a final pitch inspection on April 30. This is not going to happen this so the FAW are contravening their own rules.”

Jones hit out at the “shambolic FAW” who he felt had botched the restructure with clubs paying the price.

“If the FAW does not know what is going on in regards to the league compositions next season then what chance do clubs have.

“Look at Bishops Castle Football Club. They are ambitious and want to join the Mid Wales League. It is now March and they have not been told if they will be permitted or what work needs undertaking at their ground.”

Jones called upon the FAW to announce the composition of the new third tier so the rest of the leagues in Wales could finally put plans in place for next season.

“I feel sorry for the region’s elected FAW councillors who find themselves in the position of representing the restructure to clubs and leagues without any knowledge of what is going to happen,” said Jones.
