CARYS Gittins struck twice as Llanfair Caereinion prevailed 3-1 winners at Pontarddulais in teh quarter-finals of the Welsh Schools Under 15s Girls Cup.

Emma Williams completed the scoring as Llanfair set-up a semi-final clash against Glan Clwyd in Newtown next month.

Gittins opened the scoring from long range only for the hosts to level before the break.

Gittins completed her double with a free-kick at the start of the second-half.

However Llanfair were forced to defend with Emily Gallier and Caitlyn Watkins standing out and Millie Evans marshalling the defence.

Gittins completed her player of the match display by releasing Williams to net and seal a memorable win.

Coach Catrin Jones said: “The Caereinion girls worked extremely hard in the second half and their work paid off. I am very proud of the girls, they did not stop working both in attack and defence but the difference was our set plays, capitalising two goals from free kicks.

“It is a great achievement to proceed to the semi-finals.”

Looking to join Llanfair in the semi-finals will be Llanfyllin High School who face Glantaf in the Under 13s Boys quarter-finals this week.

The semi-finals will take place at Newtown Football Club on Thursday, April 9 while the final takes place at TNS on Sunday, May 10.
