HEIDI Davies has revealed her delight after joining the Adidas trail running team.

The Llandrindod Wells star agreed a two year contract with Adidas Terrex this week and forms part of a new look squad aiming to take the trail running world by storm.

Davies joins fellow newcomers Robbie Simpson, Stephen Kersh, Sabrina Stanley, Pablo Villa and Taylor Nowlin in the Adidas squad.

Davies spoke of her joy at becoming part of the Adidas family.

“Joining the Adidas Terrex trail running team is something I could not ever imagine happening. I feel so be grateful to be joining the team with inspiring athletes from all over the world.

“I’m looking forward to the team training camp in Fuerteventura in March which will give me the opportunity to meet all my team mates and build strong foundations with the brand projecting me forward into the 2020 mountain running season beginning at the end of April.”

Davies now lives in Malonno in Italy where she is well known having won the 2018 FlettaTrail held in the mountains surrounding the town.

Davies ended 25th in the World Mountain Running Championships in Argentina in November while opened her calendar year with a 24th place finish at San Giorgio Legnano.

Davies insisted she would always appreciate the support she received and those who put her on her path to athletics success.

“I’m taking the first steps at living out my dream of becoming a professional athlete and I couldn’t be doing this without the encouragement and inspiration I received as a youngster starting out in this sport,” said a grateful Davies.

“I thank my family, who dedicated many years standing around in the pouring Welsh rain watching me run, or transporting me to races up and down the country and who continue to believe in me everyday.

“Also to my first running club Brecon AC and to Llandrindod High School and all the coaches and teachers who encouraged and inspired me to work hard and try my best.”

The Radnorshire star also backed the next generation of sporting stars from Powys to emulate her and the conevyor belt of talent emerging from the county.

Powys has earned a nationwide reputation for developing world class sporting stars while overcoming the lack of facilities compared to more populated parts of Wales.

Davies insisted hard work and never being afraid to dream was key to her success and backed the next generation to continue their emergence.

“I hope my story can inspire other youngsters to go out there and not be afraid to work towards their dreams because you never know what can happen if only you believe,” said Davies.

“I’m only just getting started but I’m so full of energy and enthusiasm for what’s to come.”
