Welshpool Town 0 Holyhead Hotspur 3

WELSHPOOL Town’s brave Welsh Trophy bid came to a crashing end with defeat at home to Holyhead Hotspur.

The visitors arrived from the outer reaches of Anglesey as strong favourites and led early with Corey Jones steering a diving header beyond goalkeeper Dave Littleford.

However the Lilywhites threatened with Will Thomas a constant outlet and ensured the Harbourmen no rest with several attempts on goal though failed to test goalkeeper Carl Jones.

The tie remained in the balance throughout much of the second-half before a late Chris Jones double settled the outcome and ended Mid Wales hopes of winning the trophy for another season.

Manager Gareth Watkins said: "Holyhead were, as we expected, strong, fit and well organised.

"As management we have no arguments with the result.

"We played well in spells but never really looked as dangerous on the attack as we have been in recent games.

"The team have grown together as a unit and there is better things to come from this group of players.

"We wish Holyhead the best in their next game as we look to back to the league and no doubt another tough test at Builth Wells."
