Newtown 4 Rhyl 1

NEWTOWN overcame the challenge of Rhyl to set-up a quarter-final trip to TNS.

The Robins enjoyed a dream start with Nick Rushton capitalising on a defensive lapse to convert Jack Kelly's left wing cross.

However Rhyl responded 13 minutes later with Sam Molyneux's throughball swept home by Tom Creamer.

Kieran Mills-Evans' headed effort tested Rhyl goalkeeper Rory Crowther but Rhyl could have led at the break with Alec Pisorski lofting just wide from the edge of the area.

Goalkeeper Dave Jones tipped over Molyneux's close range effort as Rhyl started the second-half on top.

Newtown were galvanised and regained the lead when Ian Sheridan headed home Alex Fletcher's 65th minute cross.

Ten minutes later Williams skilfully cut inside from the right before crashing an unstoppable shot past Crowther.

It was all over on 78 minutes with Sean McAllister's superb long ball releasing substitute George Harry to slot under Crowther and seal Newtown's progress.

NEWTOWN: Jones, McAllister, Mills-Evans, Mitchell, Rushton, Sheridan, Kenton, Mwandwe, C Williams, Fletcher, Kelly. Subs: Steventon, Harry, M Williams, Thorn, Barnes.
