TNS made light work of Aberystwyth Town to book their place in the quarter-finals of the JD Welsh Cup.

The hosts eased into the lead inside the opening four minutes with Ryan Brobbel curling home from the edge of the area.

Kurtis Byrne fired wide before the Saints doubled their lead on 12 minutes with Byrne squaring for Danny Redmond to make to mistake.

The Seasiders rallied with Wes Baynes volleying wide before Alhagi Sisay saw his goalbound effort blocked on the home line by Keston Davies.

Aberystwyth continued to threaten with Lee Jenkins' 33rd minute shot blocked on the line by Chris Marriott before Saints goalkeeper Paul Harrison saved Paulo Mendes' headed effort.

TNS were restricted to half chances with Adrian Cieslewicz' lobbed effort smothered by goalkeeper Alex Pennock while Ryan Harrington headed wide.

Both sides had chances at the end of the half with James Rowland firing wide for the Seasiders while at the other end Pennock denied Brobbel and Byrne in between a wayward volley from Dean Ebbe.

The Seasiders lack of clinical edge was punished after the break with TNS on the front foot.

On 64 minutes the tie was settled with Brobbel crossing for Ebbe to side foot past Pennock.

Pennock kept the Saints at bay with saves to deny Brobbel, Greg Draper and Byrne before finally being beaten a fourth time late on.

Draper's initial 81st minute effort was parried by Pennock with the New Zealander following up the rebound.

Pennock ensured his side did not suffer further heartache with a smart save to deny Billy Whitehouse before Aberystwyth were granted a late chance for a consolation.

Marc Williams was hauled down in the area by Simon Spender however Harrison saved Matthew Jones' penalty to ensure the Saints preserved their clean sheet and booked their quarter-final ticket.
