MORE than 300 athletes from across Powys descended on Newtown’s Dolerw Park for the annual Powys Schools Cross Country Championship last week.

Newtown, Welshpool, Llanfyllin, Llanfair Caereinion, Llanidloes, Bro Hyddgen, Calon Cymru, Brecon, Christ College, Crickhowell, Gwernyfed and John Beddoes secondary schools were all represented.

Newtown won the lower junior boys team event while Caereinion topped the podium in the lower junior girls. Welshpool won the junior boys and junior girls team titles.

Welshpool also won the middle boys team event with Llanfyllin winning the middle girls.

Meanwhile the event also saw the top finishers qualify to represent Powys for 2020.

Lower junior girls: Mackenzie McCourt and Evie Foster (Welshpool); Ruby Hurdman, Chloe Wathan and Lilwen Banning (Brecon); Mya Bradley, Lottie Peate and Catrin Griffiths (Caereinion); Emily Peltor (Crickhowell); Chloe Lees (Newtown); Glesni Woodman and Manon Ellis-Jones (Llanfyllin).

Junior boys: Aled Breeze and Max Bufton (Newtown); Callum Morgan, Zac McCourt and Freddie Murton-Jones (Welshpool); Owen Price-Davies and Jack Organ (Gwernyfed); Cerwyn Gayes-Gamble (Llanidloes); Joe Murphy (Christ College); Tristen Tena-Cumberland and Alfie Davies (Calon Cymru); Louis Scott (John Beddoes).

Junior girls: Maddie Griffiths, Seren Kershaw, Gwen Kuipers and Poppy Bowen-Heath (Welshpool); Caitlyn Bloor (Caereinion); Tily Barnett and Bella Jones (John Beddoes); Chloe Murton-Davies (Newtown); Olivia Garrod and Gwenllian Mason (Bro Hyddgen); Lexie Morgan-Rogers (Calon Cymru); Anna Peltor (Crickhowell).

Middle boys: Deri McCluskey and Tom Williams (Llanfyllin); Spencer Davies and Sam Jones (Calon Cymru); Oliver Jones (Newtown); Lewis Wilde and Deiniol Owen (Welshpool); Iestyn Price (Caereinion); Perry Jolly (Llanidloes); Dylan Owen (Bro Hyddgen).

Middle girls: Zoe de Zeeuw, Dottie Evans and Grace Jones (Welshpool); Aoife Matthews and Nia Jones (Bro Hyddgen); Carys Breeze and Lucy Sayce (Newtown); Mia Barnett (John Beddoes); Erin Holdsworth (Llanfyllin); Lowri Prosser (Crickhowell).
