NEWTOWN twice led only to be held to a 2-2 draw at Stourport IIIs in the South Midland Men’s Premier League.

Andy Denham broke the deadlock after a superb solo run from Dai Williams only for the hosts to level before the interval.

Morris Smith and Tudor Jones proved resolute in defence while Gareth Preece worked tirelessly in midfield before Town regained their lead midway through the second-half.

Tom Hillidge broke to set up Rhys Phillips who slotted home.

However as Newtown tired the home side side capitalised on a disputed penalty flick to claim the draw.

The result leaves Newtown in mid-table in the table.

Meanwhile Welshpool slipped to a 3-0 defeat in Tywyn at the hands of an unbeaten Dysynni in the North Wales Women’s League.

Elsewhere a frozen pitch at Maldwyn Leisure Centre ensured Newtown and Llanfair Caereinion were left kicking their heels with a new date to be arranged for the derby.

It is hoped the weather conditions will improve for this weekend with Newtown set to take on Welshpool at the venue.

At the time of going to press Radnor were set to face Brecon in a re-arranged South Wales Women’s League One clash at Llandrindod Wells Leisure Centre.
