JIM Williams fell to a 7-4 defeat to fellow Welshman Wayne Warren in the final of the British Darts Organisation (BDO) World Championship final in London last weekend.

However the Presteigne star’s big night was marred when it emerged the BDO had sold just 15 per cent of tickets with drastically reduced prize money for players.

The BDO has since come under fire and faces an uncertain future compared to the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) whose annual finals received record viewing figures.

Williams paid tribute to Warren who became the oldest world champion in the event’s history.

“Obviously, I’m gutted but I couldn’t wish for a nicer guy to win it. If it wasn’t me I’m glad it’s him,” said Williams. “I had a little spell there at the end where I lost a bit of focus and you can’t do that against Wayne.

“The better guy won on the day. He was relentless with his scoring.”
