Berriew 1

Llandudno Albion 1

(Llandudno won 4-2 on pens)

BERRIEW tasted Trophy heartache with a shoot out defeat at home to Llandudno Albion.

The hosts were twice denied early on with Andy Evans frustrated by Albion goalkeeper Paul Whitfield.

The former Wrexham goalkeeper proved to be in inspired form and tipped over Niall Thomas’ headed effort as Berriew continued to dictate the tie.

However the hosts were stunned when Albion led with their first attack of the game with Jack Williams on target.

Berriew levelled early in the second-half with Joe Haycock slotting home Evans’ pass.

Evans was twice more denied by Whitfield before the game game went into extra-time with Thomas denied by the outstanding veteran No1 in the best opening.

Whitfield completed his man of the match display with saves to deny Harry Watkins and Haycock in the shoot-out as Berriew’s Welsh Trophy dreams ended.

BERRIEW: Gately, Davies, Pearce, J Jones, M Jones, Cook, Rogers, Thomas, Evans, Haycock, Humphreys. Subs Watkins, A Jones, Bates, Davies, Matisse.
