NEWTOWN endured a mixed weekend in the West Midland South Premier Men’s League.

Town travelled to Old Silhillians on Saturday with both sides spurning openings before the hosts pulled away with three goals before the break.

Newtown reorganised for the second-half and reduced the arrears through Tom Hillidge.

The Welsh side dominated the remainder of the half with Andy Denham and Sam Kelsey going close but could not prevent their side crashing to a 3-1 defeat.

Newtown bounced back on Sunday with a 4-2 win at Kings Heath.

Town trailed early on but replied through Denham who went on to complete a first-half hat-trick with Sam Phillips-Harvey and Jon Atkinson playing key roles.

Denham completed his four goal haul after the break before the home side rallied.

However the father and son partnership of Dai and Toby Williams and the ever reliable goalkeeper Richard Jones ensured Town went home with the points.

Captain Hillidge said: “With a bit more luck on Saturday we could easily have got something from the game and Sunday’s win was nothing more than the team deserved.”
