LLANFAIR Caereinion endured a difficult opening to 2020 in the North Wales Women’s League with a 4-0 defeat at home to Dysynni.
Llanfair struggled against the dominant visitors who raced into a three goal interval lead before an improved second-half display with the Tywyn side adding a fourth late on.
Meanwhile Sarah Thomas starred with a hat-trick as Welshpool stormed back to beat Bala at Maldwyn Leisure Centre to climb to fifth in the table.
Welshpool completed a double success with a 6-3 win at Eirias IIs in the North Wales Women’s League Cup on Sunday.
The match was delayed by floodlight failure but Pool maintained their focus and sealed a place in the next round courtesy of doubles from Sarah Williams, Zoe de Zeuw and another brace from the inform Thomas.
Newtown made the long trip to Pwllheli and returned 6-0 winners in their first league game of the new decade.
Heidi Langford starred with a hat-trick with Jacqui Loxam, Beth Lewis and Alex Powell goals ensuring a happy trip home.
Meanwhile Newtown slumped to a 3-1 defeat at Old Silhillians in the South West Midlands Men’s Premier League.
