THE regional finals of the Welsh Schools Cup were contested last month.

Llanfyllin thrashed Calon Cymru 10-1 in the under 13s girls final while Llanfair Caereinion edged a 2-1 penalty shoot out victory over Newtown to claim the under 15s girls title.

Meanwhile Newtown overcame Llanfyllin 3-1 in the final of the under 12s boys competition while Llanfyllin saw off the challenge of Bro Hyddgen and John Beddoes to win the under 13s boys cup.

Calon Cymru sealed a 3-0 victory over Welshpool to take the under 14s boys title while Llanidloes beat Welshpool and Calon Cymru to be crowned boys under 15s champions.

Meanwhile Welshpool made light work of Llanfyllin in the final of the under 18s boys cup with an emphatic 5-1 win.

The winners now progress to the national round.

Llanfyllin host Aberystwyth based Penglais in the under 13s girls cup while Llanfair travel to Bro Teifi in the under 15s girls competition.

Newtown entertain Bro Teifi in the under 12s boys cup while Llanfyllin host Aberaeron in the under 13s boys cup and Calon Cymru travel to Bro Teifi in the under 14s boys competition.

Llanidloes also hit the road for Penglais in the under 15s boys cup while Welshpool travel to Syr Hugh Owen in Caernarfon in the under 18s boys cup.
