Newtown completed a thrilling fightback to snatch a late victory at home to Llanidloes.

A bumper crowd descended on the Recreation Ground for the meeting between the arch rivals but neither set of supporters had much reason to cheer early on.

Llanidloes gradually came to dictate the game but were left stunned when Newtown broke with a fine passing move culminating in Jac Benyon-Thomas recycling the ball to wing Kyle Rowlands to cross for a try.

Llanidloes regained their composure and led just before the break with Matty Upson wriggling through the home defence to score under the posts with Tom Jerman converting.

The visitors strengthened their lead early in the second-half when mounting pressure finally told with a try for second row Gareth Anwyl which Jerman converted.

Newtown were handed a route back into the game with Will Holloway reducing the arrears with a penalty on the hour.

With five minutes remaining the hosts snatched the lead with flanker Rhys Williams crossing for a try which Holloway converted as the hosts celebrated a thrilling derby win.
