Newtown 2

NEWTOWN maintained their strong end of year form with a battling win at lowly Penybont.

Niall Flint and Kieran Mills-Evans both went close as the Robins hit the ground running before Alex Fletcher’s free-kick tested goalkeeper Rhys Wilson.

Lufimpa Mwandwe also fired wide as Newtown ended on top with the first-half goalless.

The Robins pressure told early in the second-half with captain Mills-Evans heading his side into a deserved lead.

Newtown had to soak up a spell of Penybont pressure as the Bridgend side enjoyed their best spell of the game before Mwandwe went close to settling the outcome at the other end with 20 minutes remaining.

Newtown increased their lead five minutes later with Mwandwe once again at the heart of the visitors attack to set-up Flint to settled the outcome and extend his side’s winning run.
