TWO Montgomeryshire clubs are celebrating after being recognised for their excellence by the Football Association of Wales Trust (FAWT).

The new FAWT platinum award recognises clubs for their commitment to junior development with Llanidloes Town and Berriew among only 11 clubs in Wales to receive the new standard.

A spokesman for Llanidloes Town Football Club said: "Everyone at the club is overjoyed with this top accolade in Welsh sport and it is a testimony to the endless hard work of the volunteers at the club who have made this FAW platinum award a reality.

"This is a statement of intent within the club that we must provide the very best that we possibly can for our youngsters which in turn will help with their transition to senior players and it is very important that we strive to maintain this high footballing status in Llanidloes.

Meanwhile Berriew Football Club also celebrated the award.

Spokesman Paul Inns said: "I am delighted that the efforts of the coaches and the committee have been recognised.

"A huge amount of work goes into satisfying the various criteria.

"To be one of only 11 clubs in Wales who have achieved platinum accreditation is a massive achievement for a rural village club."

More than 500 junior clubs across Wales received recognition as part of the annual FAW Trust accreditation.

Penrhyncoch were recognised with a gold standard while Machynlleth Hurricanes and Caersws both received silver awards while Dolgellau, Dyffryn Banw, Welshpool Town and Forden United celebrated bronze awards.
