THREE of Mid Wales' leading athletes have been included in Welsh Athletics' Commonwealth Games Futures programme for 2020.

Trefeglwys hurdler Lauren Williams, Welshpool shot put star Adele Nicoll and Forden marathon runner Andrew Davies will each benefit from support from the Welsh Athletics programme.

The funding and support is geared toward offering support to potential stars ahead of the Commonwealth Games in 2022 and 2026.

Davies and Nicoll are each included in the Commonwealth Games Potential bracket while 400m hurdle star Williams has been named among the Commonwealth Games Futures Athletes.

The programme forms part of a new strategic vision for athletics in Wales with the target of 'inspiring by developing a nation of champions who inspire the next generation.'

Part of meeting this goal is ensuring Wales is represented at every global and European Championship and increasing the number of top six performances at the Commonwealth Games.

Williams, the current Montgomeryshire Senior Sports Personality of the Year, said: " A huge thank you to Welsh Athletics for their continued support.

"I am extremely grateful and can't wait to see what the 2020 season has in store."
