WELSHPOOL endured a day to forget at Wrexham with a crushing 48-7 defeat at the hands of their promotion chasing hosts.

The Mid Wales side made the trip on the back of a good run of form but failed to make an impact against a side unbeaten in North Wales League Two this season.

Wrexham never looked back after Jacob Hughes kicked them into an early lead with a penalty.

Nick Dodd scythed his way through the Pool defence to open the try count before Jack Harrison added a second try.

The scoreboard continued to be worked by the hosts with Hughes charging down a kick before racing home for a try from the halfway line.

Olly Dodd added another try before the break to secure a bonus point.

It was a similar story after the interval with Ed Evans added a fifth try

Welshpool reduced the arrears with a try from Tom Davies with Tom Williams converting but it proved scant consolation as the hosts had the final word.

First Jack Partington dummied his way through for a try before Tom Walker completed the try count and an emphatic margin of victory.

Meanwhile Llanidloes continue to prop up the table following a 27-7 defeat at home to Nant Conwy IIs.

A much improved display from Llanidloes and a converted from No8 Rob Jones ensured the contest remained in the balance at the break but the visitors stepped up a gear to comfortably settle the outcome in the second-half.

Elsewhere Newtown’s scheduled match at Mold was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch.

Machynlleth maintained their bid for promotion to division two with a battling 13-5 win at Flint.

Kameron Simmonds-Sandy played a key role with a try, two conversions and a penalty while Tom Jones, Gerwyn Coleman and Ifor Evans also crossed for tries.
