THE regional finals of the Welsh Schools Cup will take place this month.

Llanidloes High School booked their place in the national rounds of the boys under 15s cup in New Year with the rest of the age grade finals to take place during December.

Next week Newtown High School takes centre stage.

On Wednesday Newtown High School stages the boys under 12s final between Newtown and Llanfyllin and girls under 15s final between Newtown and Llanfair Caereinion.

The action commences at 2pm.

Meanwhile the final of the girls under 13s cup will see Builth Wells based Calon Cymru take on Llanfyllin.

The boys under 13s final pits Machynlleth based Bro Hyddgen against either Llanfyllin or Presteigne based John Beddoes.

Meanwhile the boys under 14s cup sees Calon Cymru await the winners of either Welshpool and winners of the outstanding quarter final between Llanfair Caereinion and Bro Hyddgen.

The boys under 18s final pits Llanfyllin against Welshpool.

The schools competition has grown in popularity in recent years and last year Mid Wales stadiums hosted the semi-finals and finals day.

Latham Park in Newtown hosted a semi-final day with Park Hall, home of Oswestry based JD Cymru Premier champions TNS, hosting the final

The competition has provided a stamping ground for current Welsh women’s internationals Carrie Jones and Maria Francis-Jones who each represented their respective schools and have since progressed to sign for Cardiff City as well as beginning international careers.
