ANDREW Davies entered the history books with a never to be forgotten run at the Valencia Marathon on Sunday.

The 40 year old long distance running star from Forden joined a quality field at the IAAF Gold Label event and Olympic qualifier in Spain.

A host of records were broken and new history made with Davies’ time of 2:14:36 representing a new lifetime best and a new United Kingdom record in the over 40s class.

The finishing time broke the existing class record of Steve Way who set the time of 2:15:16 at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014.

The latest milestone represents another significant achievement in the career of one of Mid Wales’ most beloved sportsmen who is once again expected to be among the contenders for the Montgomeryshire Sports Personality awards next month.

Last year Davies won the 35-38 age category at the World Masters Mountain Running Championship while also representing Wales in two consecutive Commonwealth Games.

Davies said: “ I’m absolutely delighted to finally get the British V40 record.

“It’s been in the planning for a number of years now, so to actually finally do it it’s just a great feeling.

“Not only getting the record but also getting a 35 second personal best is very satisfying.

“Results like this make all those runs during the early mornings and nights all seem worth it.”

Davies comes from a well known running family with both father Ed and brother Tim long distance runners.
