BERRIEW Football Club hosted a successful women’s five a side festival last weekend.

Welshpool, Newtown and Newtown College raised sides while hosts Berriew named two teams and Bishops Castle had three sides on show.

A junior girls tournament was also held and the success of both tournaments will mean future events being organised.

Organiser Paul Inns said: “There’s clearly an appetite for women’s football.

“Hopefully we can have a similar event in New Year and then perhaps start a five a side league in March.”

Inns also offered clubs help in training their players.

“Not all teams have access to training and I’d be happy to accommodate any teams and their coaches into the Berriew women’s training.

“I’m sure together we can work something out for the good of the women’s game. Here’s to the future of women’s football in Mid and North Powys.”
