NEWTOWN slipped to a 3-1 defeat at Bromsgrove IIs in the South Midland Men’s Premier League.
Town enjoyed a dream start when Andy Denham blasted home inside the opening five minutes.
The Welsh side continued to press with Rhys Phillips and Tom Hillidge going close before the hosts levelled on half-time.
Goalkeeper Richard Jones kept Town level with a smart save after the break before the visitors were dealt a blow with the sin binning of Jon Atkinson.
Bromsgrove capitalised with two goals and despite Town dominating late on with chances for Sam Phillips-Harvey and Hillidge the Mid Wales side were unable to undo the damage.
Man of the match Dai Williams said: “We deserved some reward for a more than solid performance.”
Meanwhile Newtown, Welshpool and Llanfair Caereinion were left kicking their heels in North Wales Women’s League with the wet weather seeing their matches cancelled.
Elsewhere Radnor lost 3-0 at Milford in South Wales Women’s League One while Presteigne’s match with Cardiff Met IIs in division two of the South Wales Women’s Premier League was postponed.
Spokesperson Elin Wozencraft said: "It was a long journey and a bad day at the office."
Earlier in the week the Goats travelled to Carmarthen in a re-arranged game and returned to Radnorshire with a richly deserved point following a goalless draw.
"It was tough away game after work but we managed," said Wozencraft.
