Pontypridd Town 1 Llandrindod Wells 0

LLANDRINDOD Wells’ cup adventure came to an end in Aberdare at the hands of JD Cymru South side Pontypridd Town.

The Spamen more held their own during an evenly contested first-half against their physical hosts.

The best chance of the half fell to the Mid Wales League One side with Jack Evans’ dipping 25 yard volley tipped over the bar by Ponty goalkeeper Giannis Michail.

Llandrindod looked to take the tie to their hosts after the break and once again forged the better of the openings Kieran McCarley forced Michail into another top drawer save from close range.

Ponty were finally galvanised and began to impose themselves with the introduction of Gavin Beddard from the bench leading to an aerial bombardment.

Ponty led with 13 minutes remaining with Tyrell Webbe gathering possession from a half cleared corner to cross for captain Luke Gillick to head home.

Llandrindod laid siege to the home goal for the remainder of the tie.

Substitute Matty Tong forced Michail into action from the edge of the area before another effort was blocked by Vaughan Fowler.

In the last action of the game a 25 yard shot from Evans looked destined for the top corner only for Michail to produce a stunning save to end Llandrindod’s cup adventure.

Player-manager Gareth Jones said: “I couldn’t have asked for more from the lads in terms of effort, they did the club proud and certainly caused our higher league opponents a lot of problems.

“Ponty’s man of the match by their own admission was the goalkeeper which pretty much says it all.”
