Llanfair Utd 5
Mynydd Isa 3
LLANFAIR United set aside their league struggles to book a place in the next round of the JD Welsh Cup with victory over Mynydd Isa Spartans.
Gethin Jones took the man of the match plaudits for United with his hat-trick proving the difference in an eight goal thriller at Mount Field.
The tie was switched to Llanfair after two postponements with the hosts enjoying a dream start when Andrew Hughes’ cross found the net inside the opening three minutes.
Jones opened his account on 19 minutes before Paul Griffiths added a third and Mynydd Isa reduced the arrears before the break with Adrian Davies on target.
Kallum Pierce further reduced the deficit with a second for Isa early in the second-half.
However United steadied the ship with Jones notching his brace on the hour only for Pierce to set up a tense finale with his second.
United put the seal on their progress late on with Jones completing his hat-trick.
