BISHOPS CASTLE 0 WELSHPOOL 5

WELSHPOOL returned from newly formed Bishops Castle Town 5-0 winners on Sunday.

Castle formed earlier in the season and join Welshpool Town in bolstering senior women’s football in Mid Wales and the borders.

The match was played in a good spirit with Pool breaking the deadlock through Ellie Davies who marked her comeback following a two year absence with the opener.

Teenager Ella Sankey underlined her potential with two goals as Pool established a healthy interval lead.

Welshpool dominated the second-half and added a fourth through Amy Allen before Beth Jones capped her player of the match display with a fifth and final goal.

Pool coach Paul Chilton said: “It was a fine team performance from Welshpool and the most pleasing aspect was the clean sheet as we haven’t had one for a while.”

Meanwhile Oswestry based Dragon Academy and Development Centre has launched a girls coaching programme geared toward players aged 10 to 16.

Head of the Dragon ADC centre Nick Popyk said: “We’re motivated to help the next generation of footballers and that should not stop at boys.

“We know there are some very talented young ladies out there who with the aid of some focussed coaching could really improve.

“Alongside the girls who already play we’re keen to get newcomers or girls who just want to try football to come along and give it a go.

“Our ethos is coaching football to be played the correct way, but also to see the kids enjoy their football and build on the incredible community atmosphere we have among the players, parents and coaches.”
