NEWTOWN host Cardiff Metropolitan tonight (Friday) with the club’s top six challenge already on the line.

A disastrous 2-0 defeat at Airbus UK Broughton last week has left Newtown adrift of the top six and manager Chris Hughes unhappy.

“We must do all we can to ensure that level of performance is never repeated again,” said Hughes. “It was a very bad day at the office with too many players not showing up.

“We were slow to get going and not in the game for the first 20 minutes.

“While we were better after the break they could have added to their tally.”

Hughes added: “You cannot hope to win games without being competitive and we failed to do that at Airbus.”

Hughes urged his players to get their season back on track against the Archers on Friday.

“We played well despite losing against Barry a few weeks ago so we must ensure we look to reach that level of performance.

“We cannot ever allow a repeat of last week’s performance.”

Met arrive in Mid Wales on the back of defeat to Connahs Quay last week.
