NEWTOWN fell to defeat at the Airfield as they failed to build on their win at Cefn Druids the previous week.

Second best for large spells in the game, they could have few complaints as Andy Owens made the difference for the hosts with a brace.

Owens opened the scoring after just seven minutes, racing down the right and cutting inside, in front of the Robins defence to curl a low shot into the far corner.

The Robins recovered from the early setback but carved out few openings when in possession, and it was the Wingmakers who had the better of the chances heading towards half-time.

Early in the second half Robins goalkeeper David Jones was called on to palm away a strike from Jordan Evans.

The Robins’ best chance fell to Ian Sheridan who glanced wide with a free header from Jack Kelly’s cross.

Just as the visitors were building momentum, the game was put beyond their reach when Owens struck again on 64 minutes.

The Robins were caught in possession in their own half with Jones out of his goal and although he raced back in time, he could not prevent Owens slotting home after being fed by Evans.

Boss Chris Hughes made a double substitution, introducing Lifumpa Mwandwe and George Harry, with Jack Thorn joining them with 10 minutes to go, but the changes failed to create any meaningful chances and the Robins slumped to defeat.
