MONTGOMERY Town made the trek from the western fringe of Anglesey defeated but with their heads held high.

The host twice led only for the Canaries to hit back before Holyhead settled the outcome.

Sam Ashworth opened the scoring inside the opening 20 minutes as Spurs broke the deadlock with Monty ending the first-half with 10 men following the dismissal of Darryl Jones.

Monty hit back early in the second-half through Jack Williams as the match became more open.

Holyhead regained the lead on the hour with Dewi Thomas on target only for Monty to reply within less than a minute with Phil Jones netting.

However Holyhead responded a minute later with Rob Jones restoring their advantage.

Holyhead settled theh outcome in the final 10 minutes with Dave Laird conceding an own goal as Spurs sealed their passage and a long trip home for Monty..
