Nia Jones wasted little time with a first minute strike following a surging right wing run by Beth Lewis with Clare Bonsall doubling the tally.

Ruthin reduced the arrears after the break but Town recovered and secured the spoils with goals from Karen Lewis and Beth Lewis in the latter stages.

Meanwhile Presteigne battled to a 2-0 win at home to Whitchurch Saints IIIs in division two of the South Wales Premier League with Lesley Phillips and Sioned Price the scorers.

Radnor’s first division clash at Carmarthen was postponed due to waterlogged pitch.

Elsewhere Newtown kick started their Midland Men’s South Premier League season with a 3-0 win at home to Worcester IIIs.

Town had already threatened through Rhys Phillips before Aoihdon O’Regan burst forward from the halfway line to slot home with a delightful reverse stick finish.

Dai Williams was joined by under 16s international Sam Kelsey in keeping the visitors at bay until Dave Hamer followed up to double their lead after Tom Hillage’s shot came back off the post.

Toby Williams and Conor O’Regan shone in the second-half before Rob Glasser freed Andy Denham to lift a shot over the advancing goalkeeper and settle the outcome late on.

Meanwhile the next generation of Mid Wales hockey stars are encouraged to sign up for October Half Term camps taking place across Powys.

Welshpool’s Flash Leisure Centre hosts a camp on Tuesday, October 29 and Llandrindod Wells Sports Centre hosts a session on Friday, November 1 with both 10am-3pm and £20 per participant.
