MEGAN Costall has been crowned the Welsh under 18s champion archer.

The 16 year old from Newtown scored 555 out of a possible 600 to take the title at last weekend’s Welsh Archery Association Junior Indoor Championships in Newport.

Costall overcame equipment failure to storm to the Welsh title.

The teenager has enjoyed a fine year and reached the quarter-final of the Archery GB National tour, competing against some of the top archers from across the country.

In September she was selected to shoot for Shropshire in the Junior West Midlands Archery Society Inter-County Championships and helped the county to take the title before being part of the senior county side to end third in the WMAS regional Inter-County Championship.

Costall is in her second year of the Archery GB Academy which includes a weekend training camp every other month as well as eight hours training under the tutelage of GB coaches.

Costall is also part of the Welsh Academy and currently trains for minimum of 15 hours per week outside her academy and competition commitments.

Next up for the teenager is the National Junior and Senior Indoor Championships in December with her dream to represent Great Britain internationally and to compete at the Olympics.
