POWYS County Council has made a £16k investment in grant aid to a host of sport organisations across the county.

Grants of up to £1,500 are available through the Sportlot Community Chest, the Sports Council for Wales National Lottery funded grant aid scheme.

Among the leading recipients in the latest round of grant aid is Special Olympics Powys which has received £1,489 toward coach education, equipment and facility hire.

Meanwhile Maldwyn Dragons Gymnastics Club has received £1,230 while Llandrindod Dragons Gymnastics Club has been awarded £1,000.

Llanidloes Croquet Club has received £1,450 for equipment and marketing.

Cllr Rachel Powell, cabinet member for Sports Development, said: “I’m delighted we have been able to award these grants which will help them thrive and make a difference to sport and physical activity in their area.

“With just over £20,000 left for this financial year, I’m urging organisations to submit applications so they don’t miss out on this grant funding.”
