NEWTOWN battled to a 12-7 victory at home to Ruthin in the North East Wales Youth League.
The visitors forged ahead with a converted try which only served to galvanise the hosts into action.
Good recycling by the front row led to a try for prop Niall Bentley who powered over from the base of a ruck.
Newtown rang the changes at the break and eventually forced a breakthrough as Jacob Davies darted over for the winning try.
Elsewhere COBRA slipped up on their travels with the Meifod side going down 22-18 at Mold.
