LLANDRINDOD Wells fell at the first hurdle of the Welsh Shield as Llanrumney prevailed 14-10 winners.
The Budgies began brightly and led after a series of attacking line out drives culminated in a try from No8 Dan Oakley.
However Llanrumney responded with a try from Jack Perry, converted by Luke Acreman and ended the first-half firmly on top.
Llandrindod hit the ground running in the second-half and regained their advantage when scrum-half Dale Wilson released wing Ben Anderson to cross for a try.
Once again the conversion was missed and allowed the Cardiff side back into the game with a try for Harry Drane, converted by Acreman. sealing the visitors hard fought second round ticket.
