Llanfair Utd 1 Porthmadog 3

LLANFAIR United’s wait for their first win of the season with defeat at home to fellow strugglers Porthmadog.

Both sides carved early openings with Paul Griffiths firing wide from distance for the hosts before Mel McGuiness tested home goalkeeper Mark Richards.

United led on 20 minutes with Toby Evans volleying home Griffiths’ right wing cross.

However Porthmadog hit back five minutes later with Iwan Lewis threading a throughball for John Owen to slot past Richards.

Porthmadog rallied with Richards denying Jay Gibbs before McGuiness fired wide while the pressure told just before the break with Ilan Ap Gareth releasing Gibbs to lash home.

It could have got worse only for Richards to deny Owen on the stroke of half-time.

Richards continued to keep his side in the game with a superb save to den Ap Gareth on the hour before a close range save to deny John Littlemore and then McGuiness.

Llanfair had chances to level with Matt Bumford firing wide before Evans tested goalkeeper Paul Pritchard.

However it was all over when Sion Parry steered home Gibbs’ corner with five minutes remaining.

Llanfair continued to battle with Rhys Stephens heading against the bar but their wait for a win continued.
