Llanrhaeadr 4 Porthmadog 2

LLANRHAEDR'S fairytale start to the season continued with a hard fought home win over bottom of the table Porthmadog.

The visitors led inside the opening 15 minutes with Jay Gibbs' 25 yard free kick leaving goalkeeper Jimmy Hayns beaten.

Jon Owen tested Hayns while Mel McGinness headed over the bar before Gibbs' low shot saved by the home goalkeeper as Porthmadog continued to dominate.

However Llanrhaeadr weathered the storm and stunned Porthmadog with two goals in as many minutes at the end of the half.

Iwan Matthews' 41st minute free kick was steered home by Kyam Wyton and moments later another free-kick from Matthews was deflected beyond goalkeeper Paul Pritchard.

Porthmadog hit back to level with a quality lofted finish by McGiness 10 minutes into the second-half and the North Wales side continued to press with McGiness starring.

Once again Llanrhaeadr held out and with 15 minutes remaining regained their lead with Gary Meredith tapping home Matty Williams cross.

Llanrhaeadr settled the outcome late on with Matthews volleying home Sam Thomas' free-kick.
