ELFYN Evans has targeted Wales Rally GB success next week.

The Dolgellau driver will return from a spinal injury for his home rally which begins in Liverpool on Thursday before taking on the world famous forestry stages of Mid Wales.

The rally arrives in its spiritual home of Mid Wales on Friday with tests at Dyfnant and Aberhinant before ‘Super Saturday’ features the epic stages of Dyfi, Myherin, Hafren and the Sweet Lamb complex.

Saturday lunchtime will see crews descend on Newtown town centre for the regroup with access free of charge.

Thousands of rally fans are expected to descend on Mid Wales for the event which is regarded as the jewel of the WRC calendar.

Fiesta WRC star Evans has missed much of the season through injury and goes into the weekend in ninth spot in the World Rally Championship (WRC) standings having dropped from fourth place prior to his injury.

Evans said: “The rally is renowned for its long days and this year is no exception. It will be a tough weekend but that’s the nature of this sport.

“We’ve got to get our heads down and give it our very best.”
