Guilsfield 1 Connahs Quay Nomads 1

(Nomads won 5-3 on pens)

GUILSFIELD pushed JD Cymru Premier giants Connahs Quay Nomads to the wire before succumbing on penalties in the Nathaniel MG Cup on Wednesday.

Nomads bombarded the home box with a succession of long throws from Priestley Farquharson while Callum Morris headed over the bar early on.

Farquharson sliced a corner from Nathan Woolfe wide before Luke Harwood tested home goalkeeper Mike Jones as Nomads continued to dictate the game.

However the Guils remained staunch and organised to deny the Nomads until the end of the first-half with Jamie Insall firing home from the edge of the area.

Guilsfield hit back inside the opening five minutes of the second-half with a rare headed goal from Callum Bromley.

The home side were galvanised and almost led on the hour with Steve Blenkinsop forcing a goalline clearance

The match became open but Nomads almost snatched the lead in the final 10 minutes with Woolfe spurning three openings.

The tie was finally decided on penalties with Mike Bakare slotting home the crucial penalty to seal the Deesiders fourth round ticket.
