WELSHPOOL bid farewell to the second division with a 131 run thrashing at Wellington IIs.

Having been relegated the previous week the Welsh side made the trip to the league champions expecting a tough final day of the season.

Greg Jones (2-52) struck early with opener Alex Taylor caught by James Breese for 16 before Matthew Lamb was caught by Paul Chapman for a duck.

However surviving opener Steve Lamb was joined by Henry Davies in a big third wicket stand to work the scoreboard.

Lamb was finally trapped LBW by Mat McWhinnie (1-62) for a top scoring 99 to leave Davies (75no) and Luke Goring (18no) to form an unbroken fourth wicket stand to steer Wellington to 218-3.

Chapman was caught by Taylor off Marton Weill (1-16) for a duck as Pool suffered the worst possible start to their reply.

Steve Moules and Owain Abdul dominated the bowling for Wellington.

Captain Russell Cadwallader was snared LBW by Moules for 13 before Dan Chodecki was stumped by Ben Crump off Abdul for 21.

Abdul (4-20) proceeded to tear through the Welshpool middle order with only Joe Cadwallader (10) offering resistance.
