GUILSFIELD’S season long quest for the promotion ended with a 57 run final day defeat at Shrewsbury IIIs.

The Guils went into the game knowing only victory would do in their battle for promotion.

Dave Court included Alex Walker (32) and Steve Froggatt (26) in his career best 6-31 while Duncan Todd (3-26) and Sam Birch (1-21) completed the Shrews demise for just 118 in the 27th over.

However the Guils suffered a total collapse in reply with Andy Clements (16) the only member of the order to post double figures.

Henry Hornby (5-5) received support from Stephen Pym (2-23) and Ted Stone (2-29) to complete Guilsfield’s skittling for 61 in the 20th over and end their promotion dreams.

Meanwhile Alberbury IIIs were held to a draw at home to Shrewsbury IVs in the Sunday League.

Ed Roberts (42), Rhys Phillips (36) and Andrew Dale (33) helped the hosts to 189-8 to defend.

The Shrews’ reply was led by Jamie Walsh (36no) and Mike Walker (30) was restricted to 139-5 thanks to Preston Fletcher (2-33).
