Builth Wells 19 Ystradgynlais 5

BUILTH Wells stormed to a comfortable victory over Ystradgynlais in a South Powys derby at the Gro.

The Bulls hit the ground running and roared on by a large and patriotic home crowd with the pressure yielding a try from full-back Steffan Towns with Rob Lloyd converting.

The early score galvanised the hosts whose fast paced passing game soon cut through the visiting defence for a second try with a clever back row move between Ryan Beehan and Alex Brown releasing Ashley Mills to cross with Lloyd converting.

Ystradgynlais enjoyed their best spell of the game after the break and reduced the arrears with an unconverted try.

Ashley Parry played a key role in steadying the home nerves with an assured display and with Builth back in the ascendancy a back line move in their own half culminated in a second try for Towns.

Bulls manager Simon John said: “We are strong and have a great belief for success this season.”

Meanwhile Builth Wells’ youth team slipped to a 27-14 defeat at Aberdare in the Blues Youth League.

The young Bulls remained in contention with tries from Ryan Brown and Iwan Mills, both conmverred by Ryan Jones, only for the hosts to cement their triumph with two late tries.
