Penrhyncoch 1 Corwen 0
STEFFAN Davies was the match winner as Penrhyncoch opened their home account with a battling victory over Corwen on Tuesday.
A tight match at Cae Baker saw Jonny Evans twice spurn first-half openings while home goalkeeper Leigh Jenkins starred with a string of fine saves to deny Dale Davies.
It was a similar story after the break with Jack Rimmer and Evans forcing saves.
The breakthrough arrived with 20 minutes remaining with Rimmer’s free-kick headed down by Jon Foligno for Davies to pounce.
Corwen bombarded the home goal late on with Davies forcing Jenkins into another fine save.
Meanwhile Penrhyn came close to doubling their lead at the death only for Tom Evans to slice wide but the Roosters had already done enough for glory.
PENRHYNCOCH: Jenkins, Rimmer, James, Foligno, L Jones, Pugh-Jones, Pemberthy, Davies (Burrel), J Evans, Lewis. Subs: Gittins, Meredith, Morgan, M Evans
