NEWTOWN celebrated a six wicket win over Frankton to all but end the visitors’ faint Henshalls Shropshire Division One title bid.

Tom Anderson led the home attack with Brent Doubell snared LBW for four and Ian Whitticase toppled for six before completing his 3-50 with Tom Wilkie caught by Sam Cooke for six.

Dave Laird maintained the pressure with Scott Hale caught by Cooke for 11 and George Dickin falling for 15 to leave Frankton on just 51-5.

Jordan Parry and Yuri Pugh revived the middle order with a 65 run sixth wicket stand before Parry stumped by Cooke off Bryant Galpin for 39.

Pugh continued to work the scoreboard while Galpin trapped Archie Dickin LBW for eight and Laird completed his 3-34 with Richard Parry-Jones falling for 11.

Galpin (3-42) toasted the fall of Pugh, caught by Ryan Davies for a top scoring 45, with Jack Hutchinson (7no) and Stuart Lammie (11no) digging in for the final wicket to steer Frankton to 176-9.

Aaron Knight (29) and John Anthony (14) began brightly before falling in quick succession to Parry-Jones.

However Ricky Davies and Laird combined in a match defining 70 run third wicket stand to guide their side to 132 when the latter caught by Hutchinson off Parry-Jones for a top scoring 38.

Davies fell soon after, caught by George Dickin off Parry-Jones (4-41) for 24.

Newtown were not to be denied with Cooke (19no) and all rounder Anderson (15no) combining in a decisive 34 run fifth wicket partnership to steer the hosts to 177-4 and victory and end Frankton’s title bid.
