Cardiff Met 1 Newtown 0

NEWTOWN'S unbeaten start to the season came to an abrupt halt at Cardiff Metropolitan on Friday night.

With little to choose between the sides during the early stages the match was 30 minutes old when Niall Flint lofted 20 yard a shot inches wide of the target.

Neil Mitchell also went close before Met threatened with Will Evans rounding goalkeeper Dave Jones only for Sam Barnes to clear his lines for the Robins.

It was a similar story after the break with Newtown dictating the game but struggling to create any clear openings.

Disaster struck on the hour when a 30 yard volley from Evans was spilled by Jones who failed to recover as the spinning ball crossed the line.

Newtown huffed and puffed for the remainder of the game with Lufimpa Mwande and Ian Sheridan spurning openings to level as the visitors made the 110 mile Friday night trip home empty handed.
