IAN Sheridan fired Newtown to their first win of the season with Friday night glory at Carmarthen Town.

However the hosts enjoyed their spell of possession and put pressure on the Robins defence with Liam Thomas and Declan Carroll firing wide.

The pressure yielded a breakthrough on on 36 minutes with Dave Vincent following up following a goalmouth scramble after Newtown failed to clear a corner.

Newtown came out of the blocks and regained their lead two minutes into the second-half with Sheridan sliding his side back into ahead.

Lufimpa Mwandwe drilled across the face of goal before Sheridan fired over as Newtown continued to dictate the game.

Mwandwe’s shot was spilled by Carmarthen goalkeeper Lee Idzi with Sheridan firing the loose ball over the bar with 20 minutes remaining.

Newtown’s quick passing game was now in full flow with Sean McAllister at the heart and Carmarthen had no answer.

Sheridan spurned two further openings as Newtown continued to press while Kieran Mills-Evans headed wide from a corner.
