JOSHUA Alderton has set his sights on winning major honours following a remarkable year in English golf.
The eight year old golfer from Knighton will compete in the Ping Welsh Junior Tour Final in September at Newport Golf Club and the Wales Mini Masters Final to be held at Celtic Manor Golf Club.
The Knighton Primary School pupil has been coached at the Grove in Leominster by PGA professional Gary Morgan for the past three years.
The youngster takes part in the Shropshire and Herefordshire Union Peewee tour and won all five competitions this season with triumphs at Oswestry, Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, The Grove and Shifnal.
His remarkable record ensured Alderton a place in history as the first Grove club member to win the championship.
Alderton is dually qualified having been registered with an English club but with Welsh ancestry on his mother’s side.
The youngster’s dream is to win the Masters and Open Championship and play with Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood and partner one of his heroes at the Ryder Cup.
