DAVE Anthony starred with seven wickets as Newtown stormed to an emphatic eight wicket win at home to Pontesbury.

Joe Monk snared Owen Morris LBW for 13 before fellow opener Mark Lewis was caught by Sam Cooke off Anthony for nine.

When Dan Walker (2) fell cheaply to Monk (2-23) the visitors suffered a collapse with Anthony (7-16) producing career best figures to complete Pontesbury’s skittling for 46.

Opener Matt Humphreys was run out by Walker for two before John Anthony was caught by Lewis off Matt Ramsay (1-17) for 10 to leave Town 26-2 in reply.

Ricky Davies (23no) and Ian Hancocks (3no) formed an unbroken third wicket stand to steer Town to 47-2 and glory in the 12th over to cement their place in mid-table while leaving a damaging dent in Pontesbury’s title hopes.
