Llanfair United 1 Ruthin Town 1
TEN man Llanfair United held firm for an opening day point at home to Ruthin Town.
The home side trailed to a sixth minute strike from Kevin Evans who left goalkeeper Mark Richards with no chance from 25 yards.
Ruthin looked to build on their bright start with Llyr Morris denied by Richards before the home side grew into the game.
United levelled on 31 minutes with Gethin Stephens heading home Paul Griffiths’ free-kick.
However Griffiths’ day turned sour five minutes later and received his marching orders for his part in a mass melee.
The 10 men almost led at the break only for goalkeeper Ryan Goldston to produce a stunning save to turn over Josh Astley’s volley.
It was a similar story after the break with United dictating the game.
Astley forced Goldston into action before Karl Seliaerts’ chipped effort dipped just over the bar.
Ruthin almost snatched a last gasp winner only for Rhys Stephens to block Garmon Hafal’s goal bound strike from six yards as United held out for a deserved point.
